IF HOLLYWOOD CAN'T, HOW CAN YOU?

15 million dollars. That's how much Lions Gate spent to market the 6 million dollar film “Fahrenheit 9/11”. Total Gross: $120 million.

32 million dollars. That's how much Walt Disney spent to market the 110 million dollar film “Around the World in 80 Days”. Total gross: $24 million

What’s the point? Getting people to see your film, no matter how much money you spend, is not guaranteed. Disney spent over 30 million dollars hoping to get people to see Around the World. They lost 116 million bucks in the process. OUCH! We both know you are not spending 6 million or even 6 thousand dollars on your film, but no matter how much your film cost you, you need to market it. Why? Because everyone else in the whole world is, and in order to get noticed, you got to as well.

Today, anyone can make a movie. Plug the camcorder into your computer and use an editing program that cost less the $100 bucks, hit a few buttons and bam, you have a movie to sell to the masses. You are not just competing against seasoned filmmakers, you are now competing everyone. YOU need to make your film stand out. Sitting back and letting someone else do it is not going to work anymore. YOU need to market your film to the people. If you yell loud enough, people will hear you.

Below are some conversation starters, a few ideas to get your own brain churning.
